HD DVD Craters; Sony Rides the Wave

    February 20th, 2008

Whether they are cunning strategists or simply have had an incredible streak of dumb luck, credit Sony for perfectly navigating the HD movie format war. Not only has Blu-ray emerged victorious, the timing of HD DVD's demise just might tip the scales for the PlayStation 3.

C-64 Cartridge Captures Complete, New Menu Pages Added

    February 16th, 2008

A few early '80s classics like Battlezone, Centipede and Robotron 2084 have been fleshed out, while some other titles, including Pole Position, Up 'n'Down and Solar Fox, finally have entries. Also, a collection of new menu pages is up, offering new and different ways to browse the game list and also offering a preview of games that will eventually get their own GoA entries. Next up is my collection of C-64 disks, which will take a good while but will also add a huge wealth of content to the site.

    Apple II Captures Complete

    February 2nd, 2008

I've finished capturing screen shots and audio clips from my Apple II collection. Actually, I do still have one more game that needs an entry, Track and Field, but the Apple version requires a game controller that won't work on the Apple IIc I was using, and I'm too lazy to set up a IIe just for one game. Maybe later on.

Next up is the Commodore 64. I know, for a site dedicated to Atari I've been paying a lot of attention to non-Atari hardware. Don't worry, after the Commodore I will cover the Atari 8-bit computers.

More good news: I have some games for all three systems touched so far: the NES, the Apple II, and the C-64. The plan is to write up all the reviews, histories, and so on, for each game once it hits three captured systems. That means a few of those "Coming Soon" blurbs will finally go away! Stay tuned.
