Jungle Hunt Imitations

Usually it was the video game pirates creating arcade games that looked different but played exactly the same as other arcade games. In 1982, however, Taito themselves made three different games all using the same program. Ironically, one of those games was about pirates, the seafaring kind.

Jungle King - Our hero's girl has been kidnapped by cannibals! But when our hero looks like Tarzan, moves like Tarzan, and sounds like Tarzan, you know rescue is only a matter of time. Actually, the estate of Tarzan author Edgar Rice Burroughs thought he acted a little too much like Tarzan, and sued Taito for copyright infringement.

Jungle Hunt - Taito's answer to the Jungle King lawsuit was to replace Tarzan with a more refined (read "British") jungle explorer.

Pirate Pete - Taito then changed a little more of the game, replacing the jungle with the high seas, but otherwise keeping the game exactly the same. Apparently pirates can be cannibals too.
