SNOOPY AND THE RED BARON
Atari, Inc.
Peanuts in Video Games
While the Peanuts gang hasn't seen too many releases, they still
feature in a lot more video games than the average comic strip cast.
1983 - Snoopy and the Red Baron - In this Atari 2600 game, Snoopy takes on his German foe to
retrieve stolen treats for the Allies.
1984 - Snoopy - Charlie Brown's beagle appears in this platformer for the Commodore
64.
1990 - Snoopy's Silly Sports Spectacular! - Did you know the Peanuts gang shares a video game with Donald Duck?
No? That's because they don't, at least not really. This collection of
offbeat sports events like boot throwing and sack racing was originally
released in 1988 for the Nintendo Famicom. At the time the game was named
simply Donald Duck and featured Mickey Mouse's famously short-tempered
friend. When publisher Kemko decided to introduce the game to American
audiences two years later, they found Donald Duck to be unlicensable, and so
the baton was passed to Snoopy and his friends. Actually, the game's true
roots are in Europe, where it was called Alternative World Games and
didn't feature any famous cartoon characters when released for various 8-bit
home computers in 1987.
1990 - Snoopy's Magic Show - More of a puzzle game than a magic show, this Game Boy title has
Snoopy trying to rescue Woodstock and his bird friends. Snoopy's brother Spike
also makes an appearance.
1995 - Snoopy Concert - A collection of minigames plays out as Snoopy tries to assemble
other Peanuts characters together for a concert. This Super Famicom exclusive
was released only in Japan.
2001 - Snoopy Tennis - A Game Boy Color exclusive. It's only fitting that Snoopy would
eventually get a tennis game. Remember, no arguing with the
umpire.
2006 - Snoopy vs. the Red Baron - Snoopy and the Red Baron again go wing to wing in this game for
PlayStation 2 consoles, PlayStation Portable handhelds, and Windows
PC's.
2008 - Snoopy DS: Let's Go Meet Snoopy and His Friends - Nintendo DS owners get to do just that, but only in
Japan.
2009 - Snoopy Flying Ace - This XBox 360 aerial dogfight, featuring the cast of Peanuts as
well as Snoopy's favorite villain, was created by the same team as Snoopy
vs. the Red Baron, and received similarly positive reviews.
