Atari 2600 Frogger Reviews

Frogger was Parker Brothers' inaugural game for the Atari 2600, and they picked a good one to start with. While the graphics and sound are somewhat sparse, and both would be trumped by Starpath's later release, they are sufficient for recreating the original game, and they successfully bring home the challenge and fun. As icing on the cake, the two pieces of music included are among some of the best tunes heard on an Atari 2600 in 1982.

Parker Brothers produced a lot of Frogger cartridges, and the game remains the easiest to find from the Parker Brothers catalog. Interestingly, Parker's cartridges didn't always have good-quality labels, and cartridges are often found without labels. The odds of these label-less cartridges being Frogger is so good, a joke says any Parker catridge that loses its label will turn into Frogger. Fortunately that makes Frogger good cheap fun, and one of the better bargains for the Atari 2600.

Grade: B+.
