Apple II Galaxian Review

Despite offering very little in the way of graphical horsepower, the Apple II is actually well suited for a game like Galaxian. The challenge is in faithfully capturing the arcade experience, without the speed bumps or lack of sound that plague a lot of Apple II releases. Fortunately, this one does well enough. The graphics are decent, with enough detail that every type of alien is easily distinguished from the others. The fact that the game only offers three types of aliens helps; emissaries apparently didn't make the cut. Audio is decent as well, and surprisingly consistent throughout the game, even if it does sound rather weird at times. Apple II Galaxian even scores bonus points for being one of the few home ports to match the arcade game in the number of aliens per wave, with a fourth row of drones making up for the missing emissaries.

All told, this port is a good effort, and will suit the Galaxian fan just fine until it's time for another trip to the arcade.
