It wasn't the first game to let players cooperate with each other, and it wasn't the first to turn Dungeons and Dragons into a video game. It wasn't even the first game to combine these two features. But Gauntlet was the first video game to really connect with both the D&D crowd and the video gaming crowd, giving both an excuse to spend massive amounts of money while showing off their gaming skills. The graphics are a fine example of Atari Games's excellent abilities, and the music and sound effects set the mood perfectly, but perhaps the best feature is the game's often sarcastic narrator... or is that Dungeon Master?
