Atari 2600 Pole Position Review

Pole Position was going to be a challenge for any machine from the early 8-bit era to represent accurately, let alone the Atari 2600. Yet somehow, the console rises to the occasion. Kudos to the game's programmers. There are obvious compromises, from grey-colored "grass" to only one other car on the track at a time, but still, this is a surprisingly good game of Pole Position. A choice of difficulty levels, which most Atari 2600 arcade ports from this era had, would have been nice, and maybe some billboards too, but the quality of the game makes those only nice-to-haves instead of can't-live-withouts.

Grade: B.
