Commodore VIC-20 Pole Position Review

There is absolutely no sense of speed in this version. 244 miles per hour, the supposed top speed, may as well be 10 miles per hour. There is no sense of danger, either. Steering is very slippery, as if you're driving on ice, yet you still have to make an effort to go off-track, even on the sharpest corners. The lack of billboards also helps kill any worry. Still, for all its faults, this version actually comes off as a little more fun than its big brother on the Commodore 64. Granted, the VIC-20 version still isn't all that wonderful, but at least the game plays fair and the controls, slippery as they are, don't seem to defy their own logic like they do in the 64 port.

This really can't be called a good Pole Position port, but it's not horrible, and really it isn't even the worst there is.

Grade: C+.
