Fewer colors, simplified graphics, and monochrome characters with hollow eyes prevent the Atari releases from looking as nice as their Commodore 64 counterpart. Game play is the same, however, which means these versions preserve the challenge and addictiveness of the arcade game quite well. Slick goes missing, but Sam easily handles the job, and both Ugg and Wrong-Way are present and accounted for. In short, the Atari ports may not be the greatest looking, but they are still among the best overall versions of Q*Bert.
(Note: The Atari 5200 and the Atari 8-bit computers have very similar hardware, and games were often published with the same code for both. The Atari 5200 version corrects a minor bug related to the music used to introduce each new level, and accomodates the console's analog controls by making players press the fire button for each new jump. Otherwise Q*Bert plays the same on both platforms.)
