The best thing you can say about the Atari home computer version of Zaxxon is that it is consistent. The ship's speed is consistently too fast. The sideways laser cannons and parked enemy ships fire in the first level, consistently earlier than in the arcade. The collision detection is consistently too liberal. Zaxxon's defeat is consistently anticlimactic. But really, that consistency is a good thing, because once you get used to the speed differences and the quirks, there are no further surprises. So, the game at least plays fair, which makes it better than, say, Sega's Commodore 64 version, or Coleco's Atari 2600 version. Graphics and sound are decent besides, so while there are better home versions of Zaxxon out there, this one at least isn't the worst.
