With a cast of characters as colorful (literally and figuratively) as Pac-Man's, and with game play more rich and varied than any arcade game before it, Crystal Castles was rightfully a big hit of 1983, more than holding its own against Atari's other big arcade hit of the year, Star Wars. A large soundtrack of musical themes borrowed from the classical era and three-dimensional castles full of hidden tunnels, nooks and crannies also help make this game a classic.
