Introducing the SHMUP

Xevious, introduced in 1982, is one of the first vertically-scrolling games where a single fighter is tasked with blasting just about anything and everything that moves, both on the ground and in the air. The game laid the foundation for other notable titles like Raiden, Flying Shark and Aero Fighters. Xevious was also one of the first arcade games to feature Easter Eggs and other hidden elements for players to discover.
