Battlezone Imitations
Several other first-person tank simulators have come out since
Battlezone, including...
Robot Tank -
This Activision title for the Atari 2600 has much in common with
Battlezone, though it swaps some features with its 2600 counterpart.
In place of multiple enemies and a more realistic treatment of bullets,
Robot Tank offers a more complex damage model, where a single enemy shot
may only knock out your tank's radar or treads, instead of destroying the tank
outright. Robot Tank also cycles the game through day and night, and
frequently changes the weather, simulating the perils of trying to find an
enemy in thick fog, or drive over muddy ground in the rain.
Stellar 7 -
This tank simulator for 8-bit home computers was eventually ported
to 16-bit systems like the Commodore Amiga, and also spawned two sequels,
Arcticfox and Nova 9: Return of Gir Draxon.
BZ Flag -
This open-source multiplayer tank fighting game for modern
computers owes a lot to the original Battlezone. In fact, that's what
the "BZ" stands for.
