Shortly after Q*bert's arcade release, Gottlieb parent company Columbia Pictures was bought by the Coca-Cola Company, who moved Gottlieb's properties to another company named Mylstar Electronics. This is why some home home versions of Gottlieb's games credit Mylstar instead of Gottlieb.

Following the industry crash and more ownership shuffling, Gottlieb again emerged as its own entity.
