Gauntlet Geneology

1985 - Gauntlet - Up to four players at a time explore dungeons and battle monsters while collecting hidden treasures.

1986 - Gauntlet II - Thor, Questor, Thyra and Merlin return to conquer a new collection of dungeons. The familiar enemies are back as well, but a few new ones also join the cast.

1987 - Gauntlet: The Deeper Dungeons - This title is an expansion pack for the original Gauntlet as ported to certain home computers, including the Atari 8-bits and the Commodore 64. 512 new dungeons are added to the game.

1989 - Gauntlet: The Third Encounter - This Atari Lynx exclusive was developed by Epyx, and it shows. In addition to the original four, characters like the Nerd, the Punkrocker, and the Gunfighter can also descend into the dungeons. The enemies and other elements of the game have also been given the Epyx overhaul.

1993 - Gauntlet 4 - This Sega Genesis exclusive offers new spins on the old game, including an optional storyline and the ability for players to fight one-on-one with each other. A faithful port of the original arcade game is also included.

1998 - Gauntlet Legends - Gauntlet goes 3D and beyond the dungeon in this arcade game, later ported to the Sony PlayStation and the Sega Dreamcast. This release borrows even more elements from Dungeons and Dragons, giving players the ability to level-up and even save their characters between games.

1999 - Gauntlet Dark Legacy - New locales, new characters, and new ways to fight add to the revamped game play introduced in Gauntlet Legends.
