Donkey Kong Geneology
Donkey Kong has become a cash cow for Nintendo, starring in many
different games in the arcade and across all of Nintendo's home consoles.
Below are just a few highlights from his long resume.
1981 - Donkey Kong - Mario must save his girlfriend from the big, stubborn
ape!
1982 - Donkey Kong Junior - Mario has exacted his revenge and caged Donkey Kong! It's up to
Junior to get his daddy free!
1983 - Donkey Kong 3 - The ornery ape is up to his old tricks, this time wrecking havoc
in a greenhouse. Stanley the Bugman must defend his prized greenery and smoke
Donkey Kong out!
1983 - Mario Bros. - Mario gets a starring role, and a brother, Luigi. Together, Mario
and Luigi must clean up a basement filled with all sorts of creepy crawlies.
See the entry for Mario Bros. for the further exploits of Mario and
Luigi.
1983 - Donkey Kong Jr. Math - Daddy and Junior team up to teach arithmetic to the little
players.
1994 - Donkey Kong - More than just a port, this Game Boy release builds on the
familiar characters and plot of the first game to create a new gaming
experience where puzzle solving is as important as running, jumping and
hammering. Nintendo piled on more portable puzzles with 2004's Mario vs.
Donkey Kong for the Game Boy Advance, and 2006's Mario vs. Donkey Kong
2: March of the Minis for the Nintendo DS.
1994 - Donkey Kong Country - A platformer in the spirit of Sonic the Hedgehog, released
for the Super Nintendo. Two sequels followed. Kong cohort Diddy Kong, who
later became the star of his own games, was introduced in this
series.
1995 - Donkey Kong Land - The Game Boy's answer to Donkey Kong Country allowing
platforming on the go. Again, two sequels followed.
1999 - Donkey Kong 64 - Donkey Kong gets a new dimension in this 3D platformer for the
Nintendo 64.
2003 - Donkey Konga - Donkey Kong meets Dance Dance Revolution, only
instead of stepping, players must beat on drums and clap their hands to the
patterns given on screen. The Game Cube saw three Donkey Konga titles
in all, plus Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, which applied the drum controls to
a somewhat untraditional platformer.
2005 - DK: King of Swing - Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong swing through this Game Boy Advance
entry.
