How to Play Frogger

A traffic-jammed freeway and a log-jammed river stand between Frogger and his home. All you have to do is help Frogger cross both without getting run over, eaten, or drowned. That might sound easy, but the game's difficulty ramps up in a hurry, and so does the number of critters determined to make a meal out of our froggy hero!

The game begins with Frogger on the far side of the freeway. Help the frog hop his way between the speeding cars and trucks until he reaches the sidewalk between the freeway and the river. Then, hop across the floating logs and swimming turtles to reach the lily pads Frogger calls home. Hop carefully, because if Frogger takes a plunge or misses a lily pad, you lose a life and have to start over again with the freeway! Also, keep an eye out for diving turtles. Turtles are safe to ride when they are afloat, but an underwater turtle with a Frogger on its back is bad news!

There are five lily pads Frogger can call home. If you safely bring Frogger home five times, claiming all five lily pads, you will beat the level. Afterward you're off to an even busier freeway, and an even more active river. New enemies appear in these later levels, all with an appetite for frogs. Alligators, snakes and otters each have their own traits and personalities, but the safest course of action is to avoid them all. Actually, an alligator's back is as safe as a log to hop acrss, but don't let Frogger get anywhere near those gaping jaws!

Frogger's journey can also yield some pleasant surprises. If a fly is resting on a lily pad as Frogger hops in, you score a bonus. More bonus points can be earned if Frogger finds a lady frog in the river and escorts her home. However, watch out for that other alligator, the one that occasionally peaks out over an empty lily pad. Steer clear of him, or Frogger will have made the entire journey just to be alligator food!
